The re-energized focus on Long Island Sound's story is obvious in the colorfully redesigned main hall, which has been renamed Newman's Own Hall in celebration of a $1.2 million grant from Newman's Own Foundation."

Aquarium Update: A Special Delivery & A Turtle Reunion

By Cara Kenefick

In this case, big things come in BIG packages.

A Special Delivery

Christmas came early this week at the Aquarium! On Monday, we received an exciting delivery for our upcoming special exhibit, which opens on Jan. 18. We revealed it (a brand new custom tank) to our Facebook fans on Tuesday, but for now, we’re keeping our lips sealed as to what will be living in the exhibit.

The exhibit opens officially on Jan. 18, just in time for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, but our members are invited to an exclusive opening event on Jan. 16.

We’ve posted some hints throughout the Aquarium, so if you’re eager for more clues, stop by from now until the opening.

Together Again

Our green sea turtles and loggerhead turtle have been reunited!

You may have noticed over the summer that our loggerhead sea turtle had been moved to her own outdoor exhibit on our riverfront courtyard.  We relocated her after noticing the two green sea turtles were causing her some stress and picking and biting at her flippers.

A few weeks ago, she came back inside to the sea turtle exhibit and has been getting reacquainted with her surroundings. We kept the two green sea turtles behind the scenes while she adjusted.

The few months apart may have done the trick. Last Tuesday, our aquarists reintroduced them back into the exhibit and are happy to report that, so far, things are going well!

Can’t wait another minute to see all three turtles swimming together? You can start planning your visit right here.

Check back in with us for more updates and peeks behind the scenes! In the meantime, you can stay up to date with us from every corner of the web. You’ll find us happily posting, pinning and tweeting away on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, Google+ and Tumblr.
