We've taken a few educational boat trips over the years but yours was by far the best all-around experience. The highlight had to be the breadth of sea life we pulled up and got a chance to investigate, interact with and, of course, learn about."

Less than three weeks before Valentine’s Day, shop for amazing sweets for your sweetie from some of the region’s best chocolatiers as The Maritime Aquarium is taken over on Sun., Jan. 26 by Chocolate World Expo.
The Expo, one of the largest consumer-oriented chocolate events in the United States, will feature some 30+ vendors who will offer FREE tastings and sales of their products. They’ll be set up throughout the Aquarium’s galleries.
PLUS, there will be free demonstrations by celebrity chefs Barret Beyer and Lawrence Rosenberg, and free shows by mentalist Marc Salem. And it's all available for an admission price LESS THAN the Aquarium's normal ticket prices. (PLEASE NOTE: paid admission – with a $2 discount – is required of Maritime Aquarium members on Jan. 26.)
Expo producer Marvin Baum said Chocolate World Expo is for people who are serious about chocolate and unique specialty foods.
“Think of the chocolate tastings in the way you might think of a wine tasting at a winery: you get a small sample to try and you often get to talk with the person who made the product," Baum said. "If you like what you’ve tasted, you can purchase that product directly at the show for yourself or to give as gifts.”
Expo/Aquarium visitors will find not only traditional and gourmet chocolates, but also unique offerings like chocolate tarts, chocolate-covered pretzels, chocolate balsamic dressing, chocolate-covered bacon and even chocolate-scented bath soaps. But Chocolate World Expo isn’t entirely about chocolate. Vendors also will present baked goods, specialty foods and even fine soaps and bath products.
Cooking demonstrations using chocolate will be led by celebrity Chef Barret Beyer (Fox TV’s “Hell’s Kitchen,” shown at left) at noon, 2, 4 & 6 p.m.; and by Executive Chef Lawrence Rosenberg, recipe-book author and owner of Bacon Bites (show below right), at 1, 3 & 5 p.m.
Chef Beyer will be demonstrating a white chocolate risotto with an espresso cajun rubbed hanger steak with a port raspberry pan sauce. He also plans to deep-fry chocolate covered strawberries in tempura batter.
Chef Rosenberg will demonstrate a frozen chocolate mousse that has the consistency of an ultra-smooth chocolate ice cream. Topped with fresh whipped cream, chocolate shavings and fresh raspberries or strawberries, it makes an excellent ending to an elegant dinner party. He will be offering a taste and the recipe.
Plus, in place of the Aquarium’s regular daily IMAX movies, Chocolate World Expo instead will present five free 40-minute shows Chocolate Mind Games by “mentalist” Marc Salem in the IMAX Theater. An expert on non-verbal communication, Salem has been astounding audiences for decades – and also Mike Wallace in a “60 Minutes” segment (click here to view) – with his seeming ability to read thoughts and perform amazing mental feats. Salem’s shows will be at 10:30 a.m., noon and 1:30, 3 & 4:30 p.m. Seating is strictly limited to 300 seats per show. Audiences will be seated on a first-come, first-served basis. Visit Marc's web site here.
Celebrity chef demonstrations and Mentalist Marc Salem are being offered as a "bonus" to Chocolate World Expo attendees, and therefore we cannot guarantee space availability. Seating is limited for all shows and offered on a first come, first served, basis.
The Maritime Aquarium exhibits will be open on Jan. 26 – and will stay open two hours longer than normal: from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Please note that our new "Jiggle a Jelly" jellyfish touch adventure will not be open on Sun., Jan. 26 during Chocolate World Expo because of the crowds expected. Jiggle a Jelly will be open Saturday, Jan. 25, and weekends and holidays and school vacation weeks after Chocolate World Expo.
