Sand Tiger Shark Fun Fact

Looks closely at the sand tiger sharks in the "Ocean Beyond the Sound" exhibit. Their snout and jaws are covered in tiny holes. These are receptors for the sharks' "sixth sense" – their ability to detect bioelectric fields emitted by other animals (including potential prey).

Our Education Department wants to make your connection with The Maritime Aquarium as easy and as helpful as possible.

And you can download a selection of lesson plans that will enhance your curriculum pre- and post-visit, as well as Activity Sheets Sheets and a Scavenger Hunt that will engage and focus students during their Aquarium visit.

Fish School teachers open house!

Below is a news story and then details about our 2013 Fish School, held on April 9. Stay tuned for information about the 2014 session.  

Learn more about The Maritime Aquarium's robust education offerings. Network with fellow educators from the tri-state area. Enjoy light dinner fare and a beverage while you see our Aquarium in a whole new light. Stations throughout are staffed by our educators and feature our standards-based programs for students in pre-K through high school. Preview one of our new IMAX® movies: (Movies are free, but limited to seats available.)

Free admission, but reservations required. Please contact our Reservations Department to reserve your spot. Educators only please, no spouses or children. Each teacher must register with her or his unique information: educator's name, grade taught or position, full school name and address, preferred phone and e-mail contact, and preference for IMAX movie showing.

If you wish to register multiple educators at once, we must have all the above for each educator registering.
