NORWALK, CT – The new IMAX® movie “Amazon Adventure” shows how an important discovery about natural selection was made in the Amazon. You can do your selecting on Amazon – the company – to support The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk and to discover what’s happening at the popular Connecticut family attraction.
Online shoppers who make purchases through an Amazon.com program called AmazonSmile now can designate The Maritime Aquarium as their favorite charitable organization. It doesn’t cost consumers anything, but the Aquarium will benefit.
Shoppers at smile.amazon.com will find the exact same low prices, vast selection and convenient shopping experience as at Amazon.com, with the added bonus that the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate an eligible portion of the purchase price to The Maritime Aquarium.
“It’s no different than shopping at Amazon.com; you’re merely starting at a different web address,” said Dave Sigworth, the Aquarium’s publicist. “Just be sure to designate The Maritime Aquarium as your charity when you first visit the page, and bookmark smile.amazon.com for all your online shopping, and we’ll receive a portion of your future eligible purchases.”
As IMAX audiences see in “Amazon Adventure,” British naturalist Henry Bates was reliant on Samuel Stevens to fund his 11 years of research in Brazilian rain forest. Similarly, The Maritime Aquarium – as a 501(c)3 not-for-profit institution – is reliant on gifts large and small from those who support its mission of marine education and conservation.
“Smile.amazon.com is a way to help the Aquarium financially without making a financial commitment yourself,” Sigworth said.
Burbio and Amazon Alexa
The Maritime Aquarium is now a content partner with Burbio.com, the online calendar-managing-synching app/website. That means you can go online to Burbio.com to see what’s happening at The Maritime Aquarium, and even add items of interest to your calendar.
Even better, for owners of an Amazon Alexa – the popular “intelligent personal assistant” – Burbio is now supplying Alexa with information about the Aquarium. Just say, “Alexa, ask Burbio what’s happening at The Maritime Aquarium,” to hear the latest events, programs and more.
“Alexa, alone, can tell you the basics about visiting The Maritime Aquarium but, through Burbio, Alexa now also knows what’s on our calendar and can synch our calendar to yours,” Sigworth said. “It’s a fast and very easy way to stay connected with us.”
