"We've taken a few educational boat trips over the years but yours was by far the best all-around experience. The highlight had to be the breadth of sea life we pulled up and investigated, interacted with and, of course, learn about."

Sand Tiger Shark Fun Fact

Look closely at the sand tiger sharks in the "Ocean Beyond the Sound" exhibit. Their snout and jaws are covered in tiny holes. These are receptors for the sharks' "sixth sense" – their ability to detect bioelectric fields emitted by other animals (including potential prey).

Shark-Diving Santa

Dates: most Thurs., Sat., & Sun. in December

Times:  12:15 and 2:15 p.m.

Cost:   free with admission

Santa joins the Aquarium’s dive team to demonstrate that sharks aren’t the blood-thirsty killers of myth. He'll strap on scuba gear and enter our 110,000-gallon “Ocean Beyond the Sound” exhibit as part of our regular program that lets guests see and talk with volunteer divers swimming in the exhibit. Bring your camera!

Purpose of the dives is to correct common misperceptions about sharks, as the divers demonstrate how sharks do not see humans as prey.

Workload permitting, Santa is expected to participate in most dives in December. On Thursday, Saturday or Sunday, click here to confirm if Santa has pulled himself away from the North Pole to exchange his snow boots for swim fins.

Santa will swim over to the exhibit window to pose for pictures so be sure to bring a camera!
